Personality Types

I think learning about personality types is fascinating - it helps you to understand why people do things the way they do and helps you interact better with your family and friends.

I do, however, have one problem with personality typing. Whether you’re using type A or B, type 1, 2, 3, or
4, introvert or extravert, or any other personality test out there, an easy trap to fall into is to make excuses for
sinful habits and patterns.

I’ll use “Dressing Your Truth” as an example, since I’m most familiar with that. I was labeled as a type one
- the fun, outgoing, bubbly personality. Since I had my new title, it was now okay to be as spontaneous as
I wanted, to always want to go out with friends and to have fun. The problem with this new-found freedom
was that it gave me an excuse to be silly, flirtatious, and irresponsible. I’d laugh it off with “Oh, I’m just a type
one!”

These labels encourage you to be you - all of you. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s all accepted because
you are now living your truth.

God gave each of us our unique personality - and we should embrace that! But, being the humans that we
all are, we each come with a unique set of sins. A type 3 is a get-it-done type of person - they’re always on
the go and love a good challenge (strengths) but they can easily push others aside, focusing more on the
end goal than on cultivating relationships around them (weaknesses). Type B is the laid back, gentle, go-with-
the-flow person (strengths), but will struggle with being lazy and unmotivated (weaknesses).

No matter what unique personality you are gifted with, those strengths unfortunately come with a set of
weaknesses. Each of our struggles are different from each other; don’t let those go with a wave of your
hand. Put off the old man - the sinful habits like impatience, laziness, harsh words, etc. - and be renewed.

Freedom doesn’t come from being yourself. Freedom comes from being all that God has planned for your life.
